Lorcan O'Herlihy's sculptures signify the transition of his paintings into the third dimension. Embodying prevailing concerns about abstract gestures and repetitive geometries, these sculptures explore how lines may be expressed spatially, engaging the viewer as a participant in the work.
The sculptures start without preconception and ultimately evolve into their own being.  Materials comprise utlitarian steel, rebar, and zip ties.  Limiting the process to just these materials established parameters with the knowledge that, through improvisation, each piece will reveal itself.
Lorcan's sculptures were shown as part of Lines, Mounds, and Internal Landscapes, an exhibition of his work at the SPFA Gallery (September 1, 2011 - October 7, 2011)
